Volunteer

Volunteers are always needed at APS! Here's how to get involved:

To get on our growing volunteer mailing list and receive regular notices
about upcoming volunteer opportunities, send an email to the volunteer
coordinator at volunteer@animalprotectionsociety.org.

To become a regular volunteer, sign up for the next volunteer orientation
listed on our homepage. APS schedules orientations when it has a new cluster
of people who have signed up. Please note, you must be 16 years old or
accompanied by a parent/guardian to volunteer.

What do APS volunteers do?

At the APS Adoption Center, we always need volunteer dog walkers who can
come by regularly. Our dogs love to be taken on walks which help make them
more adoptable. We also need people to visit cats in our cat rooms.

Our biggest need right now is for volunteers who will take dogs to
adoptathons and help us with community events. Now that the adoption center
is up and running, we need to make more people aware of our important work.

We also need loving foster parents willing to care for homeless dogs or cats
in their homes and help them find permanent, loving homes. For more
information, call adoption center director Lisa Smith at (919) 304-2300.

Why volunteer?

The benefits of volunteering for APS are numerous and immeasurable. A simple
dog walk not only helps our dogs with housebreaking behaviors, but gives
them much needed exercise and teaches them leash manners. You will also
benefit since walking is good for your health, and our 50-acre sanctuary is
a very peaceful place to unwind in perfect quiet. Get involved with our
learning center and have master trainers mentor you in positive training
methods. Rest assured that our dogs will shower you with thankful kisses and
as you leave their smiles will warm the depths of your soul. Hanging out in
our cat rooms will afford you the luxury of a purring serenade as you play
with and love on our resident felines. It is widely known that simply
petting an animal lowers blood pressure and invokes good feelings, and our
cats will be more than happy to offer up their soft fur. Socializing with
our cats and kittens increases their adoptability as they get used to
developing bonds with humans. Whatever your motivation to volunteer, the
biggest reason remains the same:  the animals need you, so contact us today.
